Itinerary

Paraguay is a land of many contrasts. It is a developing country, but it is full of many beautiful natural wonders. Upon your arrival at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport in Luque, your local guide will be waiting for you to transfer you to your hotel.

The afternoon is yours to explore the city, relax by the pool, or chat with some locals.

In the evening, you’ll meet with your group and guide for authentic local cuisine. Your guide will share details of your schedule as well as provide tips about local customs and safety.

Today you will make your way into the city center of Asuncion where you will be teaching your classes. Following an orientation and training, you will meet the students you will be teaching. Each morning you will teach your students.

After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant, you’ll get to explore the city and surrounding area. Today you will explore the city center including Nu Guasu Park, Plaza de los Héroes, Manzana de la Rivera, and Playa Uruguaya.

Today is your first day of classes. As you ride into the city, you can review your syllabus and plans to get to know your new students.

Following a morning of teaching, you head of the first of three Jesuit missions, La Santisima Trinidad de Parana. Explore the ruins and learn about the history of the Jesuits in this area.

After another fun day of teaching, you will head out to the Museo del Barro. This museum is full of ancient art and artifacts from Paraguay’s history. You’ll also visit some local artisans to see the handcrafting of filigree jewelry, guitars and harps.

In the evening, head to the riverfront for some tasty dining and people watching along the riverwalk.

Today you will have lots of time to interact with your students in real-world conversations as they will join you on a very special journey to Iguazu Falls, considered one of the greatest falls in the world. Here 250 streams join together to form the magnificent cascades surrounded by lush jungle. There are several pathways through the jungle to give you closer views of this powerful natural wonder.

You will return to the city late in the day, tired but energized by the beauty of the day.

Today is your final day of teaching in Paraguay. Think of the difference you have made in the lives of your students – you have inspired them to pursue educational and career success through your efforts.

After a luncheon specially prepared by your students to say “thank you” and “goodbye,” you will have the afternoon to relax in a local spa, take in some more sights in the city, or do some final shopping for treasures to take home.

Hopefully, you have had an educational and fun week. Enjoy a final breakfast with your group and guides while you share your favorite memories and what you have learned. It is time to head to the airport for your departure flight home.

Paraguay is a poverty-stricken but mostly undiscovered country. The people appreciate the efforts of teachers like yourself to inspire them and make a difference in their futures.

On this trip to Paraguay, you will volunteer to teach the children of Asuncion while exploring the some of the country’s most famous attractions. The highlights include visiting the ruins of Jesuit missions and especially Iguazu Falls. You have made a difference by  volunteer teaching in Paraguay this week!
