Orangutan Wildlife Adventure
Study Animal Sciences on the Island of Borneo
ADD AN IMPACT!
You can help combat the continual loss of the orangutan’s natural habitat by planting trees to restore the rainforests, creating more space for the wildlife to live comfortably. But the best thing you can do to help is to avoid products made from palm oil, the industry responsible for massive deforestation there.

1 of 1Itinerary
Start your trip by flying into Sandakan to study animal sciences in Borneo. After landing, take a short drive to your hotel close to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center. This is where you will spend your time for the next couple days. Get settled in, explore the surrounding jungle and end your travel day with dinner.
For your first day, you will get to help orphaned orangutans by nursing them back to health and administering vaccines for diseases. You can help the orphaned babies learn how to fend for themselves by teaching them to find fruit and climb trees. The work done here with the orangutans will help them get ready to be released back into the surrounding reserve. On top of working with the orangutans, you can help with conservation projects to help the survival of this endangered species.
Wake to the sound of wildlife, grab some breakfast and spend another day helping the orangutans at the rehabilitation center. Spend time in both the outdoor and indoor nurseries while learning about paediatric and veterinary care. Conduct field surveys and contribute to the research being done on the rescued and injured orangutans. For the evening, find a nice place to relax before enjoying a fresh and locally grown dinner.
Begin the day early with a flight to Lahad Datu and a drive to Danum Valley where you will spend time in the middle of the jungle. This conservation area has a complex ecosystem and is home to many species of orangutans. Meet with your guide and walk on the canopy walkway and through nature trails to hopefully see some orangutans. The protected area is a great way to see orangutans in the wild and watch and learn of their natural behaviors. You may even come upon monkeys, elephants, and leopards. Take some time to relax in a hammock while reading a good book before having dinner and going on a night drive in an open vehicle to search for nocturnal animals
To start the day, fly into the city of Sarawak. Once in the city, explore the colorful streets and find the hand-painted street art depicting orangutans and monkeys. Grab your camera and check out the Semeenggok Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Watch the orangutans get fed and swing on branches before helping them out tomorrow. If you have time make sure to stop by their botanical research center and see the wide variety of plants they have in the nursery.
For your last full day in Borneo, help the orangutans at the Semenggok Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Go through the orangutan gallery and learn about the differences between female and male orangutans when it comes to their life cycle and their eating habits. Help with their breeding program and learn of the veterinary care in place for the orangutans who need help to get back on their feet. For dinner find a local restaurant in Sarawak.
Pack up your bags, grab your passport and make your way to the airport for your flight back home.
Travel to the island of Borneo and study animal sciences during a fun and helpful week. Visit two of the best rehabilitation centers for orangutans and contribute to the conservation of the species. Learn of their natural behaviors while watching them in the wild and get close and personal with semi-wild orangutans. Contribute to the veterinary work and conservation efforts happening in the lush rainforests of Borneo.
