Overseas Adventures & Marine Science Studies in the Indian Ocean

ADD AN IMPACT!
The Maldives is renowned for its abundant marine life. However, pollution and plastic endanger these animals and threaten them with extinction. Add an impact to your trip by walking along the beach and picking up trash or joining a conservation program to rescue, rehabilitate, and restore turtles to their natural environment.

Itinerary

You are off and away, heading toward true paradise. As you descend into the Maldives take in the views of crystal water, sandy beaches, and scattered Islands. You will be transferred by boat to the Island of Hulhumalé via a local guide where you will stay in a luxury villa standing over turquoise waters.

After unpacking, the afternoon is all yours! Take a dip in the infinity pool, play tennis, or go on a nature walk. In the evening, your group will meet for a buffet of traditional Maldivian cuisine, an excellent opportunity to get to know your guide and your travel mates, and ask questions about your upcoming overseas adventures.

Diving with whale sharks is one of the most popular activities in the Maldives, and for a good reason! After a hearty breakfast, a boat will pick you up from your island. You will be off searching for these gentle sea giants. Once spotted, you can choose to either snorkel or dive into the water. If you don’t feel comfortable, you can also enjoy the sharks from the boat’s view. Guides and professionals will be with you every step of the way, training you on how to dive and educating you on the animals.

You’ll enjoy a BBQ lunch at a private island where you’ll have a further opportunity to snorkel the reefs. Keep an eye out for turtles, starfish, manta rays, seahorses, and more!

Today, you will get the opportunity to learn more about the culture and lifestyle of Maldivian people. A speedboat will transfer you north to the Island of Huraa. Here you will gain insight as to the simple life led by villagers, learn how to cook Maldivian dry fish and visit a building yard for boats. Next, you’ll speed to the island of Himmafushi. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and visit the market to buy some authentic souvenirs.

Be sure to pay attention to the commentary from your guide on the islands’ traditions and cultures. Take time to appreciate their way of life and how it compares to yours.

It’s the excursion we’ve all been waiting for: jetpacking the Maldives! A speedboat will take you to the nearby island of Kuda Huraa. Propelled by both adrenaline and water, rise up from calm waters to engage in some unforgettable airborne acrobats with underfoot jetpacks. An expert team will provide training that will have you spinning, blasting, and twirling in no time. While you wait for your turn, enjoy alternative water sports, such as kayaking, paddleboarding and riding a Sea-doo.

Over 130,000 people live in Malé, making it the most populated island in the world. Take a walk along its boardwalk to a local café to enjoy tea time. Enjoy the snacks and tea as you learn about the island’s local food and culture. Following this, you’ll make your way through the city’s local markets and sightseeing hotspots. The streets have an Islamic atmosphere and are lined with local houses. After walking around, attend a workshop where you will paint a coconut or plate with an artist giving you one-on-one guidance. You’ll be brought back to your island in time for dinner.

Heading south you’ll make your way to a pristine sandbank in the blue lagoon. Suntan on the banks, swim in warm water, and snorkel the shallow reef – an ideal location for beginner snorkelers. You’ll cruise to two other excellent areas for snorkeling to see colorful fish and coral life. Keep an eye out for sea turtles and reef sharks as well! As the sun sets, your captain will cruise over east of Hulhumalé for dolphin watching. What an incredible way to end your last night in the Maldives.

Sadly, your final morning has come and it’s time to go home. Enjoy the last breakfast with your group and local guides. Take time to converse regarding your favorite activities and memories. You’ll be transferred back to the local airport for your flight’s departure.

With renowned luxury accommodations, white-sand beaches, traditional culture, and spectacular marine life, the Maldives makes for an ideal holiday location.

On this trip to the Maldives, your group will stay at a private luxury island and engage in numerous engaging overseas adventures.  From swimming with whale sharks to jetpacking lagoons to island-hopping, you’ll be sure to make memories that will last a lifetime. Start planning your trip today!
