Itinerary

Arrive in Marrakech and look for your local guides who will be there eager to meet you with sign in hand to transport you to your riad. After getting settled in, get ready to enjoy delicious traditional Moroccan dishes like tagine or couscous while learning about important cultural and social norms and learning a few essential phrases in French and Arabic so you can communicate with the locals like a pro!

After enjoying a traditional Moroccan breakfast and Moroccan Mint Tea, get ready to bargain your way through the souks while checking out the various items in the countless stalls selling everything from hand-painted ceramics to traditional Moroccan shoes. Take a break from bartering to marvel over the stunning Koutoubia Mosque located a quick walk away in the heart of the medina, with views of the city that can’t be missed! Ready for more epic views over Marrakech? You can’t get enough as you head over to the ruins of the El Badi Palace and take in the panorama views over Marrakech for some Instagram worthy shots.

Today’s the day you will depart the hustle and bustle of the city and make your way east towards the desert, ascending the Atlas Mountains. Enjoy a scenic drive passing by many Berber villages that are made up of traditional mud-brick buildings and have made various movie appearances in films like Babel, The Mummy, and Alexander. Along the way, stop in the local villages and learn how local women extract oil from argan nuts to produce the argan oil that is commonly found in your beauty and skincare products, as well as your kitchen!

As soon as you reach the desert, get ready to transfer to your own individual camel for a further trek into the Sahara Desert where you will spend the night in a Berber camp and enjoy a traditional dinner under the sunset. After dinner, set up a traditional nomadic camp where you will get to sleep right under the Saharan stars!

Rise early for a quick climb up the dunes for sunrise and then savor breakfast before your trek back across the desert on your camel. Once you reach the tip of the desert, you will continue on in vehicle with exciting stops along the way to cities such as Aït Benhaddou from the 11th century! Continue on your journey back over the Atlas mountains until you reach Marrakech, where you will be free to spend the rest of your evening at a slower pace by exploring the city’s unique cafes such as the rooftop at Cafe des Epices or picking up a book at Cafe du Livre.

Craving some sun and sea? After breakfast, get ready for your journey to the port and surf city of Essaouira. When you reach this surfer’s town, head out to explore the colorful bazaars and historic forts as you enjoy the laid back atmosphere of this coastal city. Wind down over champagne as you watch the sunset at the ever-popular II Mare piano bar and enjoy local live music.

Grab a quick breakfast and take a peaceful stroll along the beach before heading back to Marrakech where you will catch your return flight home. Feel free to do any last minute shopping in the souks of the medina before you say your goodbyes to Morocco!

Discover the third largest desert in the world on a trip to study history in Morocco, where you will take an adventurous camel trek into the Sahara Desert, learn about the origins of argan oil and how it’s produced, and sleep under the stars in the one and only Sahara Desert. You’ll begin and end your trip in Marrakech, with a short getaway to the coastal city of Essaouira just before departure. We hope you’ll join us on an unforgettable Moroccan desert experience!
