The afternoon is yours to explore your environment. Walk into the village, take a dip in the hotel infinity pool, or go for a nature walk on a nearby path. In the evening, you’ll meet with your group and guide for authentic Bulgarian cuisine, offering a great opportunity to get to know your guides and ask questions about your upcoming schedule.
For your first full day in Bulgaria, you will explore the city’s capital. Start the day with a traditional Bulgarian breakfast before learning about the history of Sofia’s most famous landmarks. Sofia’s heritages are from a mix of cultures and epochs as you will notice on this tour. You’ll visit the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, 6th-century Saint Sofia Basilica, and Parliament building with a guide. After lunch at a local restaurant, you’ll make your way to the Ivan Vazov National Theater for a matinee show. Stroll through the city markets on your walk back to your hotel.
After a busy day yesterday, it’s time to relax and rejuvenate. Start the day by visiting the small village of Ovchartse for an eco-hike to a waterfall. Take some time to soak up the beautiful nature with a picnic lunch. Next, you will arrive at a thermal spa in the Balkan Peninsula. Dive into these mineral-rich, natural pools to enjoy spectacular panoramic views at the peak of a mountain. This mineral water is thought to have healing powers. You’ll have three hours to relax before heading back to the hotel.
Get ready for a history-rich and engaging day as you make your way to the oldest inhabited city in Europe, Plovdiv. Discover evidence of its ancient history throughout the grounds including Ottoman mosques and the Roman theatre. Wherever you turn, you will find the history of a glorious past. A guide will share stories about the significance of this city. After enjoying lunch, you’ll make your way to Asen’s Fortress, which is located on the top of a cliff. Explore the fortress’ breathtaking views and rich history from the Medieval era before heading back to Sofia.
Get an early start to another educational day as you climb aboard a luxury coach for a three-hour picturesque drive. Finally, you will arrive in the medieval capital of the country, Veliko Tarnovo. Explore the history of Bulgarian kings at the old fortress. This fortress dates back to the 12th century — that’s old! After two hours of hiking along the sturdy walls that have survived several attacks over the centuries, make your way to the city center. Enjoy a traditional Bulgarian lunch before arriving at the village of Arbanassi. Discover preserved frescoes and iconostasis in a 17th-century church before making your way back to your hotel.
Your final full day in Bulgaria is all about appreciating its nature and scenery. Make your way to Devetashka Cave, which sheltered all kinds of creatures, including early humans in the Paleolithic era, over 70,000 years ago. Grab a flashlight and explore this monument of culture to find cave carvings and paintings within. After a picnic lunch, you will make your way to the Krushuna Waterfall. This waterfall has the biggest cascade in the country, dropping from a height of 40 meters. An eco-path will guide you along several bridges, up steps, and past small natural water pools. Take time to explore your spectacular surroundings before wrapping up the excursion.
