ADD AN IMPACT!
An island archipelago situated between Italy and Northern Africa, Malta is a unique destination for a trip abroad. However, it’s important to note the issues Malta currently faces, including excessive water consumption, as well as land, air and water pollution. Add an impact by limiting your use of water and implementing a local recycling initiative.

Itinerary

As the plane begins its descent over the turquoise waters of Malta, keep your eyes wide open and take in the island’s beauty from an aerial perspective. Upon your arrival at the Malta International Airport, you will be met by your local guide and transferred to your accommodation in Valletta.

Once settled in the city, your guide will show you around the neighborhood. As you stroll through the streets, your guide will also shed some insights on how to speak conversational Maltese. Although you will be able to speak in English with most people throughout the trip, it’s always interesting to learn something new!

Experience the coastline of Malta in a unique way with a half-day rock climbing excursion. No matter what your climbing level is, your experienced guides will take you to the best spots suitable for your ability. As for the equipment, there’s no need to worry as everything will be provided.

After your morning climbing session, you will be connected with a Maltese organization that promotes individual empowerment and engaging the community in support of a more sustainable country. Learn about their initiatives and how you can make an impact during your stay.

After a light breakfast, you will be heading to the pristine Għadira Bay. This incredible beach plays host to some of the clearest waters you will ever see and is only a 10-minute drive from Valletta. Enjoy the morning on this white sand beach and take some well-deserved time to relax and soak up the sun.

In the afternoon, you will embark on a standup paddle boarding (SUP) excursion. This SUP tour will showcase the coast of Malta in a unique way. Your guide will show you the stunning Coral Cave, and while en route, you’ll pass by Slug’s Bay, and the Mellieha and Ahrax tal-Mellieha cliffs.

To start the day, you will be headed to the University of Malta to connect with The Institute for Climate Change and Sustainable Development (ICCSD). The primary goals of ICCSD are promoting social sustainability and researching topics, including sustainable development and climate change. Today you will learn about their latest research and findings.

Afterward, take a 25-minute ride to Golden Bay, a Blue Flag beach that has been recognized for its clean waters and amenities. However, as this beach cove is one of the top choices on the island, it tends to get busy. On that note, you will have the option to either rent a canoe, SUP, or all of the above. Otherwise, simply relax and chill out on the beach.

Wake up, grab a coffee, and get ready for a day on the island of Gozo. In order to get another perspective of the country, you will head to the north of the main island and take a 20-minute ferry ride leaving from Cirkewwa. Upon your arrival, you will head to the naturally magnificent Azure Window, a 28-meter-tall limestone arch situated near Dwejra Bay which boasts a lagoon calm enough for swimming or diving.

After you’ve experienced some natural beauty, head over to one of Malta’s many excellent wineries for a tour. For our adult navigators, enjoy a maltese wine-tasting session! While you’re here, you will also learn about the process of how these vintners craft their wine as well as the vineyard’s history. Tonight you will spend the night in Gozo before embarking on another island-oriented adventure.

Rise early and hop on the ferry en route to the neighboring island of Camino. It’s a much smaller island situated south of Gozo and it’s where you will be spending your final day in Malta. Upon your arrival, you will head straight to the picturesque Blue Lagoon. Here you will be able to enjoy the morning at your leisure and partake in either snorkeling, scuba diving, or hiking up the nearby cliffs.

In the late afternoon, you will head to the historic Saint Mary’s Tower. Used until 2002 by the Armed Forces of Malta, this watchtower is now open to the public and boasts stunning 360-degree views of the island. Catch the sunset and let all of the experiences you’ve had throughout the week sink in before heading back to Valletta.

After one week exploring the island of Malta, you will have experienced stunning natural beauty, outdoor adventures and received lots of information directly from environmental experts. Take the memories with you and aim to apply what you’ve learned here in other places around the world.

With its stunning coastlines, pristine turquoise waters and fascinating history, Malta is a great place to take a trip abroad. However, keep in mind that there is generally much more happening than what meets the eye when visiting new places. You may be seeing the best parts of a destination when you travel, but take the initiative to dig deeper by talking with local communities and environmental experts to better understand the bigger picture.
