Itinerary

Your journey begins as your driver greets you at Heathrow Airport in London and smoothly transports you to your hotel in the Knightsbridge District. Your hotel is located in the busiest shopping area in London and a short jaunt to Harrods.

Spend your day exploring the Knightsbridge neighborhood which is filled with famous shops including Harvey Nichols, Top Shop, Gucci, Ugg, Burberry, Nespresso, and Armani to mention a few.

Relax and watch the world go by while you munch on a cupcake at the Hummingbird Bakery. Wander the exhibits at the Victoria and Albert Museum – museums are free in London.

Harrods opens at 10:00 a.m. on the dot. You will report to Brompton Road for your retail internship at the largest luxury store in London.

Begin with a quick overview tour of all seven floors that cover over a million square feet and encompass 330 departments.

Today you will start in the spectacular toy department. Six-foot tall giraffes, silver prams, every Barbie available and all the LEGOS you could ever want colorfully adorn the shelves. Children and adults are drawn in by the overwhelming selection and quantity of toys.

In this department you will learn about stocking shelves with agility as your little customers dash from display to display.

At the end of your shift, grab a bite to eat at a local pub, hop on the Tube and head to the London Eye for a unique ride with an unsurpassed view of the Thames and the City of London.

As you pass her famous window displays and enter the doors this morning, take in the long standing tradition of Harrods. Exemplary in-store service is the hallmark of Harrods.

Your assignment today is the shoe department where they offer over 100,000 pairs of shoes from over 50 designers. Here you will find sneakers to couture with labels from Valentino and Jimmy Choo to Keds and Nike. The velvet sofas and plush carpets reflect elegance and money. There are private VIP rooms for personal service and every customer is treated like a celebrity.

While working in this department, you will observe some of the best inventory management practices. Stocking over 100,000 pairs of shoes in multiple sizes is an organizational challenge.

This evening join a local tour guide for a Ghost and Graveyard walking tour around the city. There are plenty of things-that-go-bump-in-the-night stories in London’s long history.

The Food Hall at Harrods is a gastronomical delight. The individual style shops include confections, wine, cheese, charcuterie, veggies, bakery, tea, spices, the list goes on. You can shop for a meal or shop for the week, anything you desire can be found here.

As an intern in the Food Hall, you will see first hand how managers strive to provide fresh items while keeping waste at a minimum. Not an easy task when faced with a multitude of purveyors and several restaurants.

You will be dining on sumptuous offerings today!

This evening enjoy first class entertainment by attending one of the many plays or comedy shows in London’s West End Theater District.

Begin your day with a walk around Trafalgar Square, this pedestrian mall is the perfect place to grab a morning biscuit and coffee. The tower in the center of the square commemorates Admiral Nelson’s victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.

At Harrods today, your assignment will be on the 5th floor: technology. From drones to Porsche design – this is a floor dreams are made of. Customers in this department demand knowledgable salespeople who can help them navigate the ever-changing world of technology.

Sales training is key to keep staff current. Attend an in-house training seminar highlighting technology and staff training.

After work, tour the Tower of London grounds with a period costumed guide. Hear the gruesome history of the tower as your guide brings Henry VIII and others to life. In the museum you can see the crown jewels sparkle in all their glory. Finally, climb the cold, narrow tower steps; feel the chill of the tower’s “guests” as they awaited their fate.

No visit to Harrods would be complete without visiting the Perfume Department. The fragrances that fill the air are floral, sweet, spicy and sharp.

The 6th floor Salon de Parfums is an extraordinary showroom that balances exquisite taste with grand showmanship. Here, the clientele are treated to exemplary customer service since finding the right parfum is a unique and individual experience. Observe the fine art of customer service from the experts in this department.

Your week at Harrods comes to an end today. Join your fellow interns for a farewell dinner at one of London’s many gastro pubs.

This morning explore Camden Market’s quirky shops and restaurants on the Regents Canal. Here you will also find amazing customer service, without, however, the expensive packaging. As you search for the perfect souvenir, relish in the joy of your London visit.

Your week of retail immersion at Harrods flagship store combined with touring one of the most exciting cities in the world will have you “chuffed!” (That’s “happy” to us on the other side of the pond.)
