Itinerary

Welcome to Norway! Upon arrival in this spectacular Scandinavian country, your group will transfer to your accommodation for the night before embarking on your sailboat adventure tomorrow.

Tromso is a certified Sustainable Destination. We encourage you to take in your surroundings, note what you see that is different from other cities you’ve lived in or visited, and consider what you could implement back at home.

Gather for a group breakfast before setting out for an exciting expedition into the Arctic Circle! The Arctic adventure begins in Tromso, Norway, nicknamed the Paris of the North, located in an area rich with Norse and Sámi history. Explore the sub-Arctic Norwegian town said to have been inhabited since the last ice age.

When you’re ready, head to the dock to board your sailboat — your home for the remainder of this tour!

Early this morning, depart from Tromso in search of Norway’s whales. Today’s itinerary depends largely upon the weather conditions, the amount of daylight during the voyage and the expected location of the whales. The ship may sail clockwise or counter-clockwise around the island of Senja.

Over the next several days, you’ll be traveling along the north coasts of Senja and Andforden (exact itinerary is dependent upon weather and daylight). Spend the day on the water looking for glaciers and enjoying an intimate discussion with a climate expert.

The area you’re sailing through today is where many whales have been spotted in recent years. Keep a look out for sperm whales and other whale species. Near Andenes, along the edge of the continental shelf, whales dive particularly deep to feed on giant squid.

Anchor for the night in one of the scenic fishing villages nearby, such as Skrolsvik, Andenes, Gryllefjorden or Sommarøy. Once the sun has set, take a short hike along the coast and maybe catch sight of the aurora borealis.

Continue to circumnavigate Senja then sail to the small island of Sommarøy, where opportunities to see the northern lights and take pleasant hikes await. Spend the last morning of the cruise exploring the island’s small bays and white beaches. Arrive to Tromso around midday with enough time to shop for souveniers in town, visit a museum or simply take a walk in the fresh winter air.

After spending one last night on board, disembark in Tromso and enjoy lasting memories that will accompany you wherever your next adventure lies.

Spend the day exploring Tromso, visiting a museum, meeting with another local expert in a climate-related field, or visiting a “climart” exhibit.

Enjoy a final group breakfast together before beginning your departure home and onward journey. We hope you take home both life-changing memories, friendships and new expertise to take back home with you.

Begin your Arctic educational tour in Tromso, Norway, a certified Sustainable Destination and embarkation point for your semi-private boating adventure. Study the implications of political science on climate change action while aboard a completely unique and once-in-a-lifetime arctic tour. During your cruise, visit several arctic islands, glaciers, see the aurora borealis, enjoy a whale watching tour, visit a small fishing village and meet with experts at the University of Tromso.
