Once you arrive to Malaysia, your guides will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to your accommodation. You will be staying at an eco-lodge, as to reduce the carbon footprint of this journey and help to preserve the natural beauty of Malaysia.
You will be spending the next three days in Malaysia with your wonderful local guides who are incredibly knowledgeable about the local culture, plants and wildlife. They are experienced orangutan spotters, who will hopefully help you see these incredible creatures in their natural habitat.
In the afternoon, hop on a small boat on the Kinabatangan River, home to some to some of the best wildlife viewing in Southeast Asia. The diverse vegetation of this vast forest is home to an impressive variety of species including proboscis monkeys, orangutans, gibbons, pygmy elephants, tarsiers, slow loris, macaque monkeys, crocodiles, freshwater sharks, Irrawaddy dolphins, and a large spectrum of bird species. Try your luck at catching a glimpse of some of these incredible creatures as you float down the river.
Rise early to a traditional and tasty Malay breakfast to fuel you for your action packed day.
After breakfast, grab your hiking boots to trek through the forest with your group and guides. Learn about the local plants and their many roles in the local ecosystem, while keeping an eye on the treetops for birds and monkeys.
In the afternoon, head to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center and the Sun Bear Center. Learn about how these facilities care for the animals and the challenges they face in the region. You will also get to experience feeding time at the center — an exciting event!
In the evening, you will be invited to a special goodbye dinner. Enjoy a spread of delicious food, fresh tropical fruit and wonderful company. After dinner, watch an exclusive Malay dance show that showcases the beautiful and unique culture. Join the dancers and learn a few new moves!
Rise early to head back to the rehabilitation center for a special morning feeding.
After feeding, say goodbye to these amazing animals and jump back in the boat. We will cruise along the river and head deep into the forest to one of the best spots for orangutan sightings. If you stay still and quiet, you just may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of wild orangutans. Your guides will teach you about their living habits, as well as what they eat, where they sleep, and how they care for their young.
After your final river cruise, your group will begin your departure home and onward journeys. We hope you have a wonderful and memorable trip to Borneo!
