Itinerary

Your local guide will meet you at the Windhoek Airport and take you to your comfortable lodge where you will get to know others who will be joining your adventures in travel on this incredible journey to Etosha National Park. Depending upon when you arrive, you may want to explore the town with an introduction to the country’s natural beauty with a visit to the National Botanic Garden. You can also visit the Independence Memorial Museum to learn about the end of apartheid or perhaps the National Museum, which is right next door and located in an old German fort dating back to 1890.

You will leave for Etosha National Park early tomorrow morning, so relax, enjoy your lodge, and explore Windhoek.

Keep your cameras ready as you travel to Etosha National Park this morning for some incredible game viewing and photo opportunities. Game drives start right upon entering the park, so watch for animals gathering around waterholes or in the open countryside!

Head back to your lodge just before sunset and relax; then head out for dinner by another waterhole lit by floodlights and see what animals might appear!

Rise early to catch sight of predators on your first game drive of the day! Continue your search for wildlife and great photos, checking out waterholes and keeping watch for cheetahs and lions. Then it’s back to your lodge for breakfast before heading out for your next game drive to the remarkable “Etosha Pan.” Observe the beauty of the otherworldly desert across the expanse of salt-covered ground. Continue your search for leopards, lions, rhinos, and elephants, and then return to your lodge for lunch before yet another game drive!

Relax this evening over a sunset dinner at Okakuehjo Village.

Travel through the dramatic scenery of the Damaraland region and meet women from the Herero tribe who sell their handmade crafts to support their rural families. You can purchase something if you wish!

Venture along the Skeleton Coast, stopping at a mysterious shipwreck on the shore for another excellent photo opportunity; the resident seals may also charm you into taking their photo! Then it’s on to Swakopmund to explore the town on foot, or perhaps choose to take a catamaran cruise to look for dolphins, seals, leatherback turtles, and other marine life. You might also see whales and orcas! Or explore the coastal dunes and discover they are more than just a pile of sand!

Enjoy a relaxing dinner as you watch the sunset over the ocean.

This morning you’ll start your drive through the captivating Namib Desert, passing through the Kuiseb Pass and the Solitaire Reserve. A sunset walk awaits you as you reach the Naukluft Mountain Range and settle into your lodging for the night.

Rise at dawn before the heat of the day and reach Sossusvlei for the sunrise. Explore the ancient riverbed surrounded by towering dunes of ever-changing colors. With more sand dunes than anywhere else in the world, climb to the top of Dune 45 or the one called “Big Daddy.” Then, descend to Deadvlei, a fantastic place that photographers love with its contrasts between white clay pans, red dunes, brilliant blue sky, and pitch-black camel thorn trees (some of them around 900 years old!).

Afterward, explore the stunning rock formations in Sesriem Canyon for more unique photos. The canyon is one of the few reliable water sources in the desert, and you’ll find that a walk along the trail reveals its rich geologic history. Enjoy another fantastic Namibian sunset dinner.

The fun isn’t over yet! On your way back to Windhoek, you’ll be visiting the remarkable Solitaire Guest Farm. Here are the rehabilitation and release sites for ‘problem carnivores’ that have created issues on local farms. When the animals, such as cheetahs, leopards, and brown hyenas are ready, they are released in the surrounding area. Here you will have the opportunity to understand the challenges faced by both the animals and the community, and learn about the efforts and actions being taken to create a peaceful harmony and assure the survival of the wildlife that is so intrinsic to Africa.

Enjoy a farewell sunset dinner as you get ready to depart for home tomorrow.
