Study Sustainable Tourism in Nicaragua
Trip Abroad & Study Sustainable Travel in Charming Nicaragua
ADD AN IMPACT!
Nicaragua gets a lot of rainfall each year. However, rainwater is typically contaminated from farming and mining, causing most water to be inaccessible or unsafe. You can help install ceramic water filters, water wells, and educate locals about rainwater harvesting to help communities have access to clean water.

Begin your trip abroad by flying into the city of Managua. After checking into your hotel and eating a meal or snack, take the day to stretch your legs and visit the Montibelli Nature Reserve just outside of the city. Follow your guide through the dry forest and learn about the various plants and animals. Keep our eyes out for bats, howler monkeys, and butterflies. Once back in the city for the night, find a local restaurant before turning in for the night.
Start the day off with breakfast before traveling to the pastel-colored city of Granada. Here you will experience cobblestone streets and Spanish colonial architecture. Meet with your guide and spend the morning kayaking through the 365 Isletas of Granada. Paddle your way around the islands while listening to the birds and spotting turtles. For the afternoon, make your way up and down the cobblestone streets and visit the pastel churches in the city.
Eat a good breakfast before getting picked up for an all-day tour of the Mombacho Volcano Nature Reserve. On this tour, you will get to experience the local wildlife in three unique ways: start by hiking the volcano and setting your eyes on the most beautiful landscape in Nicaragua. Next, ride around the reserve in ATVs. And finally, fly through the canopy with a zip-lining adventure. Spend the evening relaxing in the city or by the shore of Lake Cocibolca.
Once the sun is up, take a short car ride and a ferry to the Island of Ometepe. The perfect way to discover the Island of Ometepe is by horseback. Ride through the jungle, trot on the beach and visit the stone statues and rock carvings of the pre-Columbian era. Grab a late lunch and spend the rest of the day by getting a tan and relaxing by the shoreline. Take out your camera and make sure to capture the orange sunset behind the twin volcanoes before turning in for the night.
Begin the day early and make your way down to the southwest beaches of San Juan Del Sur where all the beach parties happen. Grab your sun hat and sunglasses on your way out the door and meet your guide for whale watching. Spend the day with ELI-Scientific as they study the feeding, migration, and breeding of whales. This amazing opportunity will allow you to see whales and even dolphins while directly helping with research and the preservation of ocean life. Afterward, visit the Faro De La Herradura and explore the vibrant city.
Today is all about the beach, so grab your swimsuit and beach towel. San Juan Del Sur is a surfing paradise so, take this opportunity to catch a wave out on the water or find a comfortable spot and get a tan while watching the pros do their thing. After relaxing in the sun all day, find a local restaurant and taste traditional Nicaraguan cuisine.
After breakfast, get ready to travel back to Managua, where you will catch a flight home.
Take a trip abroad to the charming and sensational cities of Nicaragua and explore the southwest beaches, pristine jungles and colonial architecture. With 550 miles of coastline, thick rainforests, and six active volcanoes, Nicaragua is full of various adventures for any type of traveler.
