Winter Mountain Expedition in Argentina

As you arrive in San Carlos de Bariloche, or simply Bariloche, you’ll get to know your guide and get prepared for an active week ahead. Spend some time at the Francisco Moreno Museum of Patagonia, which tells the story of the region’s natural history.

Jump right into your skiing adventure at Cerro Catedral. Located within Nahuel Huapi National Park, it has groomed trails, tree skiing, and backcountry terrain. It’s also the biggest and most popular ski slope and resort in South America. After a day of rugged recreation, you’ll spend time relaxing with a massage and sauna in the resort’s spa. 

Today, you’ll head to Catedral Alta Patagonia for a day of cross-country skiing. The area has 1,480 acres of downhill and Nordic trails and snowboard terrain. You’ll be able to check out the beautiful natural setting at a slower pace.

Give your legs and knees a break today with a cable car ride up the mountain. You’ll have stunning views of the lake from this vantage point. At the top, there’s a rotating restaurant and a suspension bridge.

Afterward, pay a visit to the neo-gothic and French-inspired architecture and bell-shaped steeple of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Nahuel.  

This morning you’ll give snowshoeing a try at Centro de Ski Nordico. This peaceful setting is within the Lengas Forest. When it’s break-time, visit the mountain shelter for hot chocolate and homemade pastries. After a morning of snowshoeing, you’ll climb aboard rugged 4X4 Quadricycles with snow Caterpillars. You’ll visit scenic viewing spots and learn about the forest environment.  

Today, you’ll put your downhill skills to the test at Chapelco, which sits high above the Swiss-inspired village of San Martin de los Andes. Located in Lanin National Park, it has 2,360 feet of vertical drop. The resort has a great apres-ski scene in town with dining and entertainment. It’s also the only Argentine ski resort with renewable energy. 

Spend your last day in Bariloche strolling among the chocolate and coffee shops along Calle Mitre. Enjoy a cup of local coffee while shopping for gifts and local handmade chocolate creations.
