Itinerary

Once you have arrived in the city of Ulaanbaatar, find your hotel and get settled in. Start your trip off by browsing the city and visiting some of the landmarks. Meet your guide, who will share stories and facts about the city. Set your eyes on the biggest Buddha statue and set foot in the Gandantegchinlen Monastery. For the evening, find a local restaurant to satisfy your taste buds.

In the morning, get picked up by your guide and take a two-hour drive to Khustai National Park. Hike through the grassy terrain and do some wildlife watching. Look out for golden eagles, cinereous vultures and the wild przewalski horses. Eat lunch at the park’s restaurant before doing more animal watching. Return to Ulaanbaatar in the late afternoon and end the day by catching a show at the National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet of Mongolia.

Begin the day early with breakfast before getting picked up for a desert adventure to the sand dunes. Get the experience of the Gobi Desert without the long travel time. Stop along the way for lunch before taking a camel ride through this sandy wonderland. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the view of the distant mountains. Before heading back to the city, you will get to visit with a nomad family and experience the true culture and traditions of this famous culture of Mongolia. After your long day, take the rest of the evening to relax.

Get an extra hour or two of sleep since you will be staying in the city today. Grab comfortable walking shoes and take the day to visit some of the best museums in the city. Stop by the Central Museum of Mongolian Dinosaurs and learn about fossils and bones. Then, spend some time at the Bogd Khaan Palace Museum, where you will get to see six temples, possessions of Emperor Bogd, sculptures, and Buddhist artwork. If you have the time and energy stop at the National History Museum before dinner.

Start the day with a fresh breakfast and make sure not to forget your camera. Meet your guide before heading to the Gorkhi-Terelj National Park. Along the way stop at the massive statue of Genghis Khan and enjoy the museum and scenic view. Once you have arrived at the park, hike through the wildflower-filled grass meadows which make for great photos. Go horseback riding up to Turtle Rock and visit a small meditation temple there. In the late afternoon, head back to the city and enjoy dinner.

For your last day in the city, take the time to be creative. Meet with a master calligrapher at their studio and take a two-hour class to learn about the traditional Mongolian calligraphy style. Learn how to properly hold and apply pressure with your pen as well as specific strokes and hand postures. Find someplace to eat for lunch before making your way to the Zanabazar Museum of Fine Arts. Pay attention to detail while you are here and see the differences in styles from the different time periods. To end the day, visit your favorite restaurant in the city and toast to the good times you had in Mongolia.

Make sure you are all packed and ready for a day of travel. Head to the airport and catch a flight back home.
