Itinerary

Your overseas adventure has begun as your plane begins its descent into Luxembourg City. Look out of your window to see the country’s spectacular greenery and mountains. A local guide will be waiting at the airport to bring you to your hotel in the city center.

Take some time to rest and unpack, then the rest of the afternoon is free time. Order room service, check out the hotel’s gift shop or take a walk around the city. In the evening, you will meet with your local guides for dinner at the hotel restaurant. Take this time to get to know your guides and ask questions about your upcoming schedule.

Hopefully you got a good night’s rest because today will be a leg workout! Enjoy a tour of Luxembourg City via bikes. You’ll get to ride through the city’s historical quarter, which UNESCO acknowledged as a World Heritage Site in the mid-1990s. You’ll ride 9.5 km and get to see impressive remains of the old town in a beautiful natural environment along the way. Imagine what life must have been like in Luxembourg 50 or 100 years ago. The city is a prime example of a technological and architectural urban space that reveals past periods of human evolution. Enjoy a well-deserved lunch at a local restaurant before biking back to your hotel.

Today is a day to appreciate the nature of Luxembourg fully. You’ll take a transfer shuttle to the town of Bergdorf for a hike to the fantastic cave of Huel Lee, but make sure to bring your flashlight and keep an eye out for bats! Take time on your walk to notice how millstones that were once used in the mills of this region were carved out of the rocks. Head back to the town for local cuisine with views of Bergdorf’s aquatower exhibition. Finally, you’ll head to the romantic waterfall of Schiessentumpel – a geological highlight of Luxembourg. Wade in its low waters or hike to the very top. Following this, head back to your hotel for dinner.

Today you will appreciate the history as to how Luxembourg came to be the independent country it is today. You’ll start at Clervaux castle which was restored after being destroyed in 1944, and is now recognized as a symbol of reconstruction and celebration of traditional achievements. Explore room to room and imagine what it would have been like to live in this majestic castle. History doesn’t have to be boring! After lunch, you’ll walk over to the National Military History Museum. Here, you will view life-size models of Battle of the Bulge scenes and hear the personal stories of soldiers during this dark time.

Today is all about the wine! Head over to a 19th-century winegrower’s house and start your day with an excellent glass of local wine (just for our adult navigators!). Following this, head to the viewpoint of Keoppchen to absorb breathtaking views of vineyards and the vineyard village of Wormeldange. Next, enjoy lunch at one of the Ambassadeurs’ restaurants. For your next adventure, you’ll walk on an educational trail through the vineyards of Wellenstein and Schwebsange. Learn about the lifestyle of winegrowers and be enchanted by panoramic views.

Today you’ll learn about the history of Luxembourg’s steel industry, as well as its current status.  You’ll tour to the Minett Park Fond-de-Gras, the Museum of the Cockerill Mine in Esch/Alzette, the Blast Furnaces Belval, the Documentation Centre for Human Migrations in Dudelange, and, finally, the National Mining Museum in Rumelange. Each heritage site has its unique charm, where folk festivals, concerts, and dance productions are commonly held. Enjoy an underground railroad ride, try on mining uniforms, and climb up to the top of blast furnaces. What a way to end your last full day in Luxembourg!

This week has flown by, and it’s time to leave this beautiful and historic country. Enjoy breakfast with your guides and group before heading to the local airport for your departure flight.
