Itinerary

As you land in Geneva, take in the stunning views of infamous Mont Blanc. Meet your guide at the airport and commute to your hotel to settle in before exploring the city for the day. While you’re out and about, be sure to take a stroll through Bastions Park.

After breakfast in Geneva, it’s time to head to Zermatt. Fun fact: Zermatt is car-free! Once you settle into your accommodations, you’ll take a gondola ride with breathtaking views to the start of your first of many trails, Matterhorn Glacier Trail. You’ll be walking in the shadow of the Matterhorn Mountain, so soak in the unique, crater-like terrain.  After a break for lunch, it’s back out for a totally different scenic hike on the Botanical Nature Trail. Here, you’ll traverse a diverse ecosystem of rare wildlife plus stunning flowers, vegetation, and lush greenery. It’s a challenging uphill climb, with a reward at the top in the form of snacks and tea at Hotel du Trift. After you get back to town and your hotel, you’ll wind down the day with a relaxing and much-needed spa dip.

Wake early and fuel up for another day of exploring. This time, you’ll commute to the quaint Swiss village of Grindelwald. There, you’ll embark on a nine-mile hike, the Faulhornweg, located on the summit of First. The Faulhornweg offers postcard panoramics of surrounding peaks with lakes hugging Interlaken, and some of the best views in Europe at Schynige Platte. Take the train down to make a connection back to Grindelwald. Wrap up the day with a ride on a trotti bike (a bicycle with no seat) for some photo ops and alpine cow sightings. End your day in town with dinner and drinks.

After breakfast, you’ll take a quick train ride to Grindelwald Grund where you’ll hop on a gondola to the start of the well-known, laid back hike from Männlichen to Kleine Schiedegg. Views are plentiful as you take in the infamous trio of mountains, Eiger, Jungfrau, and Monch along with the Grindelwald Valley. Stop at benches along the way to really soak it all in, and take a break for a bite to eat at Kleine Scheidegg. From there, you can hike down or take the scenic train to Männlichen. Make your way back to Grindelwald to spend the remainder of your evening exploring the town, with a stop for dinner before retiring for the night.

In the morning, venture over to Lauterbrunnen from Grindelwald. Once there, you’ll check in at your hotel and start your waterfall-laced hike from the Lauterbrunnen Valley to Grutschalp. Then, it’s on to Murren which will give you streams and alpine forest paired with mountain range views that will take your breath away. On the way down, don’t miss the popular Trummelbach Falls – multiple waterfalls fed by the glaciers of the surrounding mountains.

After saying goodbye to Lauterbrunnen in the morning, make the trip back to Geneva. Push your legs one more time up the Saleve for picturesque views of the city and Lake Geneva. Next, you’ll explore St. Pierre’s Cathedral plus several local boutiques and cafes at Place du Bourg-de-Four. End your day with a serene dinner amid river views.

As you take off into the air, catch a final glimpse of those mountains you became so intimately familiar on your memorable trip in the Swiss Alps.

Hiking in Switzerland is a bucket-list item for a reason. With a stunning variety of terrain, wildlife, and payoff-filled treks, your study environmentalism trip through the Swiss Alps will be every bit as inspiring as it is memorable. You’ll hike in the shadow of the Matterhorn, ride mountain gondolas, see the awe-inspiring Trummelbach Falls, and even visit some alpine cows on a trotti bike ride.
