Itinerary

Begin your volcano eco adventures to study environmental sciences by flying into Guatemala City, where you will then take a ride to Antigua. After finding your hotel, grab your camera and explore the city. Walk through Spanish colonial architecture on the cobblestone streets and visit the best landmarks in the city. Stop at the La Merced Church and the Santa Catalina Arch which make great places for photos. For dinner, find a safe local restaurant and enjoy a fresh drink.

Start your trip off right with a thrilling overnight hike on one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Meet with your guide to start your hiking adventure up the Fuego Volcano. As you begin your hike, you will follow trails through flower-filled meadows and farmlands all while enjoying amazing views. Stop for lunch before making your way to the campsite which will be at a safe distance from the crater. However, if you’re lucky, you may be able to see the volcano spewing lava. After setting up camp, you will take a short hike to watch the sunset with a glass of wine. Finish up the day with dinner around the fire and stargazing before turning in for the night.

Begin your day with a cup of coffee and amazing views of the sunrise and the city below. Pack up camp after breakfast, and begin your hike back down the volcano and take some time to rest your legs after getting back to your hotel. For the afternoon, explore the colorful local market where you will find all sorts of handmade souvenirs. Once dinner rolls around, stop to enjoy a savory meal and pina coladas.

Wake up early for another volcano adventure at the Pacaya Volcano. Make sure to grab your sunscreen and hiking boots before meeting with your guide. Take a nap or read a book on the drive to the volcano or simply enjoy the views. Choose to hike by foot, or saddle up and go horseback riding. Start your hike in farmland making your way into the cloud forest zone, and soon enough you will come upon the lava fields. Here you will enjoy a late lunch and be able to roast marshmallows on a hotspot before making your way back down. After getting back into Antigua, spend the rest of the afternoon volunteering at Casa Jackson. Here, you will get to play with and feed malnourished children.

Today you will get to hike the third-highest volcano in Central America, the Acatenango Volcano. Start the day early to meet with your guide and have some breakfast. After taking a short drive to the volcano, you will start your hike. Travel through farmlands, alpine tree forests, the cloud forest, and volcanic zones. Stop for lunch and set up camp for another overnighter in the fresh air. At the top of Acatenango, you will be able to see flowing lava of the Fuego Volcano. Take in the views and enjoy a delicious dinner. Make sure to head to bed early due to an early rise in the morning.

Wake up before the sun and hike to the summit of the volcano to watch the orange and yellow-hued sunrise. Make sure to pull out your camera to capture the beautiful view. After hiking back down the volcano, spend the rest of the day at the Kawilal Hot Springs to relax after your week of hiking. Enjoy the steam baths and thermal pools that are all heated with volcanic steam vents or visit the spa and get yourself a massage. For your last night in Antigua, visit a local restaurant and enjoy a big plate of nachos.

Before making your way back to Guatemala City for your flight home, enjoy a fresh breakfast crepe and smoothie.
