To begin your trip to Montana in order to study agriculture you will start in the city of Bridger. Fly into the city of Billings and take a short drive south to Bridger. Stay at a local ranch-turned-B&B and spend the rest of the day by going on a horseback ride while enjoying the splendid scenery of bright blue skies and green pastures.
Wake up to the warm sun shining through your window and enjoy a farm-fresh breakfast before taking a farm tour of On Thyme Gourmet. This farm grows garlic and herbs and uses them in olive oil and butter. You will get to walk through their crops and learn about their process of making delicious organic products. After your tour, you will drive back to Billings where you will stay for the night. Spend the extra time you have in your day to explore the shops downtown, get yummy ice cream and visit the multiple bars in the area before turning in for the night.
Start your day at a reasonable time and stop for some coffee and breakfast on the way to Bozeman. Enjoy the views along the way before taking a tour of the Amaltheia Organic Dairy. This goat cheese farm produces two thousand pounds of cheese weekly! You will get to tour the cheese facility while enjoying mountain views and the sound of a nearby stream. At the end of your tour, try one of their flavored chevres and buy one for on the go to enjoy later. Once back in the city stop at the Montana Honey Bee Company and learn about and taste the different types of honey they offer. For dinner, find a local restaurant and enjoy a cold beer.
Today you will get to take a tour of an alpaca farm. Over 120 alpacas live at Alpacas of Montana and help produce locally handcrafted products. At this farm, you will get to see and learn how soft wool becomes socks, hats, and scarfs. Witness their shearing process, how they feed and manage their alpacas, and how they can stay successful as an agricultural business. After spending a day with alpacas, head back into the city and stroll downtown through the shops.
Begin your day by taking a drive to Missoula. Stop at your hotel before heading to the Red Hen Farm. Today you will get to take any of the agriculture classes available at the time you visit. These classes can include orchard care, native pollinators and plants, grafting fruit trees, and planning your own garden. Whichever class you choose to take you will enjoy getting your hands dirty. You can also take a tour of their farm and pick your own berries to take home with you. After a fun filled day, head to downtown Missoula and stop in at a local bar.
Grab some breakfast and enjoy a delicious coffee at a local cafe before heading to Kalispell. Once in town stop at the Fieldheads Coffee Company. This coffee company produces small batches to bring rich and desirable flavors to their roasted coffee beans. Tour the facility and learn the companies process of getting freshly roasted beans packaged and shipped all in one day. While at their facilities, make sure to enjoy a cup of java and taste the goodness first-hand for a satisfying coffee adventure.
With your trip coming to an end, drive back to Bozeman and take a flight back home.
