Your adventure in global travel has begun as you head out to Shanghai. As your plane descends, look out your window to see mountainous and forest terrain. A local guide will be waiting to greet you at the airport and transfer you to a local hotel.
The afternoon is yours to explore. Take a dip in the hotel infinity pool, walk along the city streets, or discover a nearby nature path. In the evening, you’ll meet with your group and guides for authentic Chinese cuisine — an excellent opportunity to ask questions about your upcoming schedule!
Start your morning with your first lesson about the technology of Ancient China. In the ancient world, the soft and light material of silk was desired by the wealthy. The Chinese made silk from the cocoons of silkworms and managed to keep their techniques secret for centuries. Now, it is only necessary that you tour one of China’s most wealthy cities to learn how it is done. Start at the Confucius Temple to admire complex architectures before arriving at the historic Yuyuan Gardens. Here, you’ll be able to view silkworms up-close and personal. Next, explore the shops and markets in Old Street before enjoying a soup and dumpling lunch at a local restaurant. Finally, you’ll ride to the top of the Shanghai tower for panoramic views of the incredible city.
Today, you will leave the big city to make your way to the town of Hangzhou. The locals will welcome you with a traditional fruit platter before you tour the Lingyin Temple, Meijiawu Tea village, Hefang Street, and Yuewang Temple. Following this, you’ll enjoy a homemade lunch in the Longjing Village local homes. Next, they will teach you how to make paper from scratch. Paper was invented in the 2nd century by the Chinese for varying uses, such as money and playing cards. Can you master this difficult task?
In the morning, take a bullet train to Beijing to visit China’s most famous attractions. Hike along the Great Wall of China and climb up its watchtowers. These were once used to protect the imperial capital from nomadic invaders. The innovation of gunpowder better enables the guards to do so. This was invented in the 9th century by Chinese chemists. Learn about how engineers learned how to use it for military weapons. Following lunch at a local cafe, you will hike the Jinshanling Mountain to reach its summit. Here, you will have breathtaking panoramic views of the Great Wall of China.
For your last full day in China, you’ll escape the busy city to appreciate the country’s nature and landscapes better. You’ll start at Longqingxia Gorge which is situated in between green mountain peaks. Enjoy the peaceful scenery of woodland, karst caves, and curious stones. Next, enjoy a cruise down the ravine. Learn about the invention of the boat rudder that enabled the Chinese to build enormous ships in 200 A.D. Breathe in the fresh air and view passing caves and temples. You will reach a farmer’s house to enjoy a homemade meal. Continue cruising until you reach the Guyaju Caves, which is a village complex that dwells in natural and carved rock. Explore the surroundings before heading back to your hotel. What a way to end your trip!
It’s been an exhilarating and busy week in China, but the time has come to say goodbye. Enjoy one final breakfast with your group and guides. Converse about your favorite memories and what you learned. Next, head to the airport for your departure flight home.
