Itinerary

Your guide will meet you at the airport and take you to the hotel where you’ll be spending the next two nights. Spend the first day recovering from jetlag and exploring the beautiful capital of Slovakia. Meet your guide once you’ve settled in for a delicious Slovak meal.

Wake up and eat a traditional breakfast before heading out to explore Bratislava on your first full day in Slovakia. You’ll take a guided tour of Old Town and see some of the major sights. After a lunch break in the medieval town square, you’ll spend the afternoon touring the beautiful gothic Cathedral of St. Martin. The cathedral was built in the 1200s and it’s a testament to Slovakia’s ties with the Roman Catholic Church.

An important medieval market town and the home of the Roman Catholic Archbishopric, Trnava is a city rich in culture and history. Trnava is also known as “Little Rome” or “Slovak Rome” because of the critical role it has played in Catholicism since the Middle Ages. Today, the city is full of dozens of churches and steeples.

Spend the day taking in the sights and learning all about Trnava’s history. You’ll tour the Gothic St. Nicholas’s Church and Square as well as the famous St. Helen’s Church. Then, join your group in the historic walled city center for a guided tour and a light lunch. You’ll end your day with a traditional Slovak meal before settling in for one night in Trnava.

Wake up early and head to the tour bus for a two and a half-hour drive to Pribylina. This serene city sits at the foot of the Tatras Mountains, and it’s home to the fascinating Museum of Liptov Village. You’ll spend the day exploring this open-air museum.

The museum was established to save important historic buildings from being flooded and destroyed when the Liptovska Mara dam was being built. Today, the museum is an intriguing display of Renaissance homes, gothic churches, tailors, blacksmiths, and more. You’ll learn about Slovakia’s rich history through the centuries all in one place!

Today begins with a two-hour drive southeast to Rožňava. When you arrive, you’ll settle in at your hotel and jump straight into exploring the historic center with your group. Wander through the perfectly preserved medieval town square and enjoy some beautiful examples of burgher homes. After exploring, you’ll join your guide for a tour of the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and to see the outside of the Kasna Horka Castle.

Your final destination will be Košice, the second-largest city in Slovakia. Hop on the bus one last time and head an hour east to the historic city. You’ll spend the morning exploring the preserved city center and seeing beautiful examples of Gothic, Renaissance, baroque, and art nouveau architecture. You’ll spend the afternoon touring the East Slovak Museum and learning about the cultural heritage of the city.

Take one last stroll through the historic city center of Košice before heading to the airport for your flight home. You’ll leave Slovakia with an appreciation of its rich cultural heritage and a better understanding of the Slovak community.

Slovakia is a country full of breathtaking natural beauty and fascinating history. The medieval castles, baroque architecture, and strong ties with Roman Catholicism make it a unique and intriguing country. International travel to countries like Slovakia allows you to gain a better understanding of an entire region, and by learning more about Slovakia, you also learn more about Eastern Europe as a whole.
