After group breakfast and a leisurely morning, your group will transport to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, colloquially “The Met”. The museum is the third most visited in the world reaching nearly 7 million visitors in 2018. Spend the day exploring its decorated halls and many famous artworks.

Spend the day exploring the Theatre District before heading back to your accommodation for a group dinner.

After breakfast with your group it’s time to get your work clothes on! Today you’ll head out to the wild hinterlands of Brooklyn to visit the Brooklyn Grange and hear their incredible DIY story as you learn how to grow rooftop vegetables and fruits right in the heart of the city. You’ll have an opportunity to get your hands dirty as you learn about how in 2010 a group of determined friends managed to get thousands of pounds of soil onto a Brooklyn roof to create the first of these amazing farms.

Today Brooklyn Grange produces some 80,000 pounds of fresh, organic produce every year, and has provided over 400,000 pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables to restaurants, service groups, and other customers over the lifetime of the project, as well as partnering with community service organizations and food banks across the city. They also operate an apiary, providing another vital link in creating the food we eat as pollinating bees do their thing. You’ll learn the methods they’ve refined over the years for creating, building and growing healthy organic food as the Brooklyn Grange has grown to cover three roofs themselves, as well as helping to consult, design, install and construct many more for clients across the region. The skills and knowledge you pick up in Brooklyn today can be applied to future projects back home and around the world to help communities in need, both urban and rural.

Rise early in the morning for breakfast before getting in line to visit the Empire State Building and viewing Manhattan from the top of this 102-story skyscraper. Tour the building with a local guide to learn about its construction and fascinating history.

After lunch, your group will set our to visit the 9/11 Memorial Museum created in remembrance of the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks on September 11th, 2001.
