Passports & Visas
Your travel documents are
key to your international adventures.
Without them, the only vistas you’ll be admiring are inside the airport. This will help explain what you should know about passports and visas before you travel.
Passports
You must have a passport to travel internationally, and the sooner you have a valid one, the better. Never had one? Learn how to apply »
- Applying for a new or renewed passport can take 6-8 weeks or more unless you expedite it.
- Your passport should be valid for six months AFTER your trip ends (or you return to the U.S. or your home country).
- Your passport needs to have a minimum of three blank pages.
- If you have special circumstances, WWN can refer you to a reputable passport/visa service for additional help and advice. You are responsible for any charges incurred through the use of a passport/visa service.
- Your trip leader must have your valid passport number, your legal name as it appears on your passport, and your birth date as required by TSA to give to WWN to book your international airline ticket. Please ensure that all information provided is correct and exactly as it appears on your passport. Any changes requested after flights have been purchased are subject to air carrier fees and booking fees.
Visas
Depending on where you are traveling and your home country, you may need to have a visa or visas for your trip.
- Do not apply for a visa until you have received all of the required information to complete the visa application from WWN. We will provide it to your trip leader.
- You must apply for the visa on your own. You are also responsible for the cost of your visa.
- Not all countries require visas and many visas are “upon arrival,” meaning you fill out the application when you arrive. Some countries will require you to send your passport to their embassy or consulate in the United States for pre-approval. You can check visa requirements for the country or countries you are traveling to here at travel.state.gov.
- WWN will provide your group with the specific visa requirements for the country or countries you are traveling to.
- If you have special circumstances, WWN can provide you with a referral to a reputable visa service for additional help and advice. You are responsible for any charges incurred through the use of a visa service.
